Aeronautical team members must have flown on SAR for a minimum of 3 years, maritime team members must have been at sea performing SAR operations for a minimum of 3 years. All team members must have been primarily employed in the SAR sphere throughout their career.
All team members must have been employed as SAR Mission Coordinators in a Canadian JRCC/MRSC for a minimum of 3 years.
All instructors must have been employed in a Training officer role during their career. They must be able to effectively convey information with enthusiasm and interest.
Every member of out team must display a genuine duty of care in the SAR realm, with the advancement of the SAR profession continuously in focus through effective and dedicated training.

Jean spent 34 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) as a C-130 Hercules aircraft SAR Air Navigator. For more than 12 years and accumulating over 4.400 flight hours, Jean flew SAR missions in very difficult conditions searching for downed aircraft and vessels in distress. Jean was also employed as an aeronautical SMC at JRCC Trenton for 13 years and held various other positions such as Standards officer, Training officer, Course Director for the Canadian SMC course and more. Additionally, he was Duty Officer at the Canadian Mission Control Centre (CMCC) Trenton for 3 years overlooking the detection and analysis of Cospas-Sarsat distress alerts. Jean is a well-rounded SAR professional with extensive experience, highly sought after internationally for multinational SAR workshops and other high-level events.

Robert is a retired RCAF helicopter pilot with over 20 years of service and more than 3,000 flight hours, including extensive SAR, instructional, and operational flying on the CH146 Griffon and B206 Jet Ranger. He served as an aeronautical SMC at JRCC Trenton and now, as Chief Training Officer, ensures training consistency aligned with modern SAR standards and technologies.

Maritime professional with 27 years of experience in the RCN and CCG, including service as a Transport Canada–certified vessel Master. Sailed on three oceans and served as a maritime SMC at JRCC Trenton, coordinating numerous SAR missions. Actively contributes to the SAR community as an instructor, volunteer unit leader on the Great Lakes, and through IAMSAR Solutions by advancing training standards, operational readiness, and modern SAR technologies.

Graduated from the Canadian Coast Guard College with a degree in Nautical Science and Transport Canada watchkeeping certification. Served as an officer up to Chief Officer aboard patrol vessels and icebreakers, including the CCGS Griffon. Acted as On Scene Coordinator in complex SAR operations and later served at JRCC Trenton as a maritime SMC, as well as Training and Standards Officer.

Graduated from the Québec Maritime Institute and holds a Transport Canada Watchkeeping Mate, Unlimited certificate. Served as an officer on deep-sea oil tankers worldwide and later worked as a maritime SMC at JRCC Trenton and MRSC Québec. Chaired multiple national SAR working groups and continues to serve within the Canadian Coast Guard.

Served 37 years in the RCAF as a C-130 Hercules SAR Air Navigator with over 5,500 flight hours, primarily dedicated to SAR operations. Spent 5 years as an aeronautical SMC at JRCC Halifax managing complex Atlantic SAR cases, and held key roles in training, standards, and flight safety. Also served as a flight instructor at the Canadian Forces Air Navigation School on the Dash-8.

Served 27 years in the RCAF as a pilot with over 4,000 flight hours on fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, largely in SAR operations. Former Deputy Commanding Officer of 424 SAR Squadron, aeronautical SMC, and Deputy Officer-in-Charge at JRCC and CMCC Trenton. Also contributed to accident investigations and served as Chief Safety Officer with the Offshore Petroleum Board in Newfoundland.

Graduated from the Canadian Coast Guard College with 30 years of service, including 4 years as a maritime SMC at JRCC Trenton. Former CCG Captain, National Director of Search and Rescue, and CEO of the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority, with extensive experience in SAR operations, national policy, training frameworks, and multi-agency coordination. Continues to mentor and train maritime leaders drawing on both strategic and operational expertise.

Served 33 years in the RCAF as an Air Navigator with over 4,500 hours on the C-130 Hercules, the majority in SAR operations. Held training and standards roles at multiple SAR squadrons and served eight years at JRCC Victoria, including three as Officer in Charge. Also brings international command and instructional experience from NATO School Oberammergau, specializing in training and leading SAR professionals.

Served 25 years in the RCAF as a helicopter pilot and SAR Aircraft Commander, flying and training across Canada. Later led operations at the Canadian Mission Control Centre, commissioning national SAR software, developing operational manuals, and shaping international Cospas-Sarsat standards. Awarded the Chief of Defence Staff Commendation and continues to support SAR modernization and forensic investigations as the team’s Cospas-Sarsat expert.

28 years of SAR experience with the Ontario Provincial Police, including service as Provincial Search and Rescue Coordinator. Founder of SAR-1, a ground SAR training organization delivering extensive training across Canada and the U.S. Recognized by Canadian Provincial Courts as an expert in mapping, GPS systems, and SAR policy, with experience in major investigations and coroners’ inquests. Land SAR expert on the team.
